The Red Social Club in Cork are the proud hosts of Boddika this Friday (20th Nov). Along with a cherry picked selection of local talent the collective of 5 club nights are all set to take the Savoy by storm! The massive venue has been supporting local and international acts side by side across a multitude of genres and is a venue everyone should get to and experience.
Al Green, AKA Boddika, formed Instra:mental with his mate Damon Kirkham (Jon Convex) in the early 00’s. Making tunes combining elements of garage, dubstep and DnB with techno and acid house beats they represented how electronic music doesn’t need to play by the rules but can offer something different while retaining it’s roots and tipping it’s hat to the styles of the past.
Instra:mental continued until 2011 and since then Al’s been busy with his own productions, his first release being with Irish label Naked Lunch. Treading between genres, making music from old-skool machines and giving genre nazis something to scratch their head about, he never planned on making music to fit any style except his own. His set on Friday is sure to have a selection of new and old tracks, including plenty of acidy electro bangers, analogue influenced basslines and techno belters. It’s gonna be a good one! Check out his label Nonplus Records which is a fantastic resource and includes releases from Four Tet, Actress, Pearson Sound and more.
