It’s not very often that you hear an E.P. that sounds like the name of the title but Eomac‘s latest release, Spoock, does just that, a 4 track offering that is as inspiring as it is eerie. From the moment title track Spoock takes off, you cant help but get a chill down your spine, harking back memories of taking on Bowser in the final level of Super Mario Bros. It’s a deep, dark start to the E.P. that continues in much the same vein hypnotizing you at every turn. As is to be expected, the production is colossal and his love of Burial shows. Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Lucy hands remix duties on Spoock and fills it out with a 4/4 techno vibe but maintaining that spectral groove of the original. The bass driven closer No Name is magnificent with one of the nicest snare sounds ever.
Eomac has been making waves on the scene recently, both on his own and as one half of Lakker. With releases like this though, it’s easy to see why. He’s forging his own sound and after catching the attention of the likes of Aphex Twin, is laying a blueprint for other producers, both Irish and international, to step up to.
