Subsquared is the wicked new offshoot of Project Squared, a label that has put out some relentless techno the past few years. The brainchild of Paul Cooper, it’s released some wicked records by the likes of AnD, Asusu, L-OW and Kowton. Now based in Melbourne, Cooper set up Subsquared in his own words ”as an outlet for my own taste in unreleased music, rather than a collaborative venture as what Project Squared has been so far”.
The latest release on the label is from Russian producer Ghostek who has previously released vinyl on Other Heights and Shiprec, and has collaborated with Rooflight as Ghostlight, releasing a 12″ on Styrax. Despite residing in Moscow, the No Way Out E.P. is evocative of what’s happening on the London scene at the moment – 4/4 garage and lo-fi techno, all underpinned with very dark aesthetics.
