Femen is the second EP from Hound Scales to be released on Fifth Wall, the Brooklyn imprint he runs with Divvorce. Not even a year old, the label has already churned out some strident techno from the likes of Unklone, Clouds and Matrixxman and Femen follows suit in true form producing some dark and dense techno.
Dark and dense, metalic rythyms make way for some grinding synthesis. The pulverising kicks and somber squeals of A Clique of Tough Women and Throated sound far more European than they do American and you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for an unreleased Ancent Methods 12”.
On the remix front, Japanese producer and 10 Label CEO Yuji Kondo and Opal Tapes affiliate Bleaching Agent manage to coax the tracks towards the dancefloor by adding some groove to the originals. This is particularly true of Bleaching Agent‘s take on Threaded, bringing an element of house to Hound Scales cathartic beats.
