The latest release from Don’t Recodings comes courtesy of label head honcho Jerome Hill and you know when a sample of Rolf Harris makes an appearance you’re in for a treat. Swerving The Community is 4 tracks of interesting, groovy techno in true Jerome fashion.
From the get go, opener Hit Record lays down some off kiter rythyms under serious sub bass that builds and builds. Work That Shit follows suit and is probably the most ”straight up” techno track on the E.P. with repetitive Chicago infuenced vox, and pulasting kicks, underlying beeps and squelches, and is also featured in Perc’s Resident Advisor’s Top 10 for September. Goatwerk is another techno assault – with almost sitar like synthesis. Closing track Ghetto Rolf is the trak however, that I think will divide opnion and features what might be the only use of a Rolf Harris sample in techno ever. I can see serious techno muso’s in Shoreditch rolling their eyes now but it’s proper good fun with an awesome heaviness to it -it’s so up my street, it could be living next store.
For those in London, make sure and get down to the Don’t night in Dalston on October 11th for the return of the mighty TSR
