Having rinsed most of Kid Lib’s tunes and seen him play some ferocious gigs in recent years, I was delighted to hear he has a new release out on none other than Irish label Foxy Jangle, a sub imprint of Rua Sound. Whereas the latter focuses on the more bass heavy side of things, Foxy Jangle delivers straight up jungle. And, with this as a premise, there’s no better person than Kid Lib at the helm for your first release. He’s a producer that has released some of my favourite jungle records the past while, so I suspected this was going to be class. And I was right.
Opening track Blue Dreamers lifts from atmospheric pads and classic stretched jungle vox to some heavy hitting amens. The production is so tight on this, I love the way he constantly brings in and out elements, all the while leaving the hectiness of the snares – one of my favourite elements of jungle and Kid Lib has it down to a tee.
Second track That Special Way suitably follows with vocal lines playing off each other before he delivers another amen assault this time nicely interspersed with more lush pads and rolling percussion.
This is honestly such a wicked release – so good to hear proper jungle business. So great as well that it’s come out on an Irish label. With Rua Sound already making waves throughout Europe and the UK, I fully expect Foxy Jangle to do the same with releases like this.
Vinyl and digital is out on 27 October. Head over to the Rua Sound Bandcamp to pre-order.
