Mid-week tune antics! This post has been coming a while, but here you go, a recap of an evening well spent.
Plaid have been making tunes since the late 80’s and are well adept at performing to the masses and evoking all sorts of head spinning motions and emotions. Having been signed to Warp from an early stage, their approach to tunes has always engaged plenty of experimental synth twangs and breaks, it’s no wonder they got asked to score the music for anime Tekkonkinkreet.
The Barbican hosted a screening of the film, with a live performance from Plaid, along with a string ensemble and some drummers. It was easy to get wrapped up in the film, and it was great to see all the atmospheric noises being done as well as the main tunes. For anyone who thinks the soundtrack is as important as the movie, this type of event is a must. The only thing I would have changed, is having Plaids desk facing the crowd, just so we could get a look at their tune antics! I’d love to hear of more events like this cropping up so organisers, get thinking!
Here’s one of the tunes from it, enjoy! If you’d like to check our interview with Plaid, check it here.
