Nubus has been buzzing around Ireland banging out the breaks, jungle and drum and bass. Hailing from the musical hub of Limerick city, he’s an artist that is well able to keep the old style sounding fresh, while still experimenting with new production methods.
Having produced tracks for quite a bit over the last few years, even through his Leaving Cert exams last Summer, it’s not surprising that this isn’t his only release. He’s a man that exudes musical talent and his take on electronic music bears influence from his wide array of musical interests.
He’s described himself as the “youngest junglist” and it’s definitely relieving to see young people reviving the sounds of the past, as well as giving it their own slant as well. The A Broken Drum EP is one to get buying, and not just for the DnB and Jungle fans out there.
The opening track screams jazz with an encapsulating piano and saxaphone melody backed up by some swinging DnB which builds up to a breaks filled tipping point. This is surely a track that even non-electronic music fans would enjoy!
The EP continues with Atmo Riddim, maintaining a reverberating sub-bass over dark atmospheres. The breaks lead up to darker jungle vibes as the solid beats become more defined, yet still nail down the groove we all know and love.
Rhodes Ruffage reels you in and brings the EP to it’s crescendo. Blasting out the beats, the depth of this jungle track would sit well in any djs collection and tear any dancefloor to shreds. Evoking synth lines and impressive break downs are a great way to wind down the EP with To Play Us Out.
This EP is available on iTunes and Beatport and is without a doubt a dynamic display of what Nubus is capable of. Check out the interview we did with him here and follow his antics below to keep updated with his tunes : )
