Along with running Combat Recordings, the excellent Riddim and Bruise show on Sub FM, and teaching A.V. Stormfield is very busy indeed. He’s quite the prolific producer as well having put out some wicked tracks down through the years. His latest E.P. is no different and sees him delve further into the dark crevices of techno. Collapsing System is an absolute gargantuan release.
The digital version comes with three new tracks by Stormfield – the acidic broken beat stylings of Rebuild and title track Collapsing System and the groove laden Sea Ice- and three remixes courtesy of Ireland’s own Defekt, Nonima and Errorbeauty. Each remix takes the tunes in their own direction. Defekt, fresh from his Electronic Explorations mix, proves why he’s building so much momentum at the moment, with Rebuild’s bass line making way for some superb old school electro beats and clicks.
Skirmish favourite Nonima puts his slant on Collapsing System with some technical broken beat techno. Errorbeauty turns Collapsing System from a slow acid tune to all out war, with a mammoth bassline spiraling over jagged rhythms Closing track, the aforementioned Sea Ice, takes it back down a notch with some lovely slow bass driven techno. Definitely one of my favorite releases of the year and another great edition to the Combat Recordings catalog.
Released in March. Check here for more info and some videos of the tracks being mastered.
