Hello friends!
It’s hard to believe that over two years have passed since our last update on The Skirmish Blog! We wanted to take a moment to update you on what’s been happening and the future of the site.
When Shiv and I first met at the legendary Great Friday festival in Limerick, we instantly bonded over our mutual obsession with music and our friendship grew, hitting up gigs every weekend and soaking up incredible music from DJs and bands in Cork, Limerick, and all around Ireland. Music has always been the absolute core of our friendship, and after countless sessions sharing our favourite tunes, we thought, “Hey, why not create a space to talk about all this amazing stuff?” That’s how Skirmish was born!
Over the years, the blog became our little corner to share our thoughts, highlight emerging talents, and connect with other music obsessives. However, as time has passed and the demands of real life have grown, we constantly find ourselves facing the challenge of maintaining regular updates, especially now that we both have the responsibilities of parenthood.
I’m sure this is no surprise to anyone, especially given how little it’s been updated in recent times, but we’ve decided to call it a day on producing any new content for the Skirmish Blog. While we will still keep the site up as an archive, we both think now is the right time to just make a decision on how we want to move forward with it. It’s been a massive part of both our lives and I think we’ve both felt the guilt massively about not giving it the proper time it deserves, so would rather make a statement than let it fester.
The Skirmish Blog has been a labour of love for us and we’re really proud of what we’ve created together, even if it was a bit all over the place at times. While we may not have reached the heights of major platforms like Resident Advisor, we believe we carved out our own niche and helped shine a light on some of the best artists around. We’ve had the chance to interview some incredible artists, host awesome mixes, and share music we truly love.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to the blog — DJs who shared their mixes, producers who took the time to interview with us, and all of you who offered kind words of support. Too many people to thank individually but anyone who contributed to the site in anyway – we love you! We’ve honestly made some lifelong friendships through this.
While this is the end of Skirmish in this form, we’re still regularly doing music bits. Shiv is writing for the awesome Four Four magazine, which is hands-down the best online resource for electronic music in Ireland. Definitely check them out!
As for me, I’m DJing more recently and you can find my mixes through Soundcloud here. I’ve also launched a new Substack called Farrago. Every fortnight, I share five tunes across a confused mixture of genres —think techno, metal, hip hop, cumbia, folk, afrobeat, and everything in between.
It’s still a work in progress, but I’ve got plans to do a monthly podcast/some interviews and maybe longer piece content – we’ll see, all time dependent.. Its more of a resource for me to share new music I’m finding and if it sounds like you’d be interested, I’d love for you to subscribe for free!
Like we said, we’ll keep the site up as an archive and although there won’t be any fresh content on it, we hope that you will continue to find value in what we’ve produced over the past 15 years.
Stay in touch!
Big love,
Kenny and Shiv xx
